Minty’s Musings

A Very Minty Blog

I’ve been getting a lot of spam comments lately.  For some reason, spammers are drawn to this old entry.  I don’t know why!  It’s short and pointless and doesn’t mention anything about weight loss or bootleg software.  But the spammers, they love that entry.  It’s the only entry to get spam comments, actually.  I wonder what attracts them to that one.

Hey, spammers!  If you want to trick some blogger into letting your comment through, write something better than, “Hmm.  Thanks for posting this.”  Or get a real job.  Either way.

Little Big PlanetI got Little Big Planet yesterday, and so far, I am in love!  This game was definitely worth the wait.  The levels are fun and challenging, and I’ve played most of them at least twice.  I really like the sandbox stuff too–you can customize your character and his pod and even make your own levels!  But the best part might be the music. There’s this one song that’s gonna be stuck in my head for days. And I’m just really glad Sony was brave enough to go cute.  This game is cute!  Like, Nintendo Cute.

My only complaint is the controls.  Jumping is tricky, and sometimes, when you try to push an object you walk around it instead.  It can be frustrating trying to move around in places that have lots of objects.

But I’m definitely having fun, and I can’t wait to build my own levels. I wanna make a big, Minty level for others to play!

Holy snickerdoodles, I let this blog gather some dust.  I think this might be a sign of growing up or some other horrible thing.  I’m too busy to blog!  Right.  I’ll fix that.

I tried to use my Nintendo DS Browser yesterday, and I soon realized that I had forgotten the password to it.  So embarassing!  I figured it had to have some fail safe, though.  It’s just plain silly to develop software without a fail safe.  So I did a quick search, and sure enough, there’s a way to load the program in safe mode and erase the settings.

So if this ever happens to you, here’s what you do: Hold down L, R, Up, X, B and Select before starting the browser.  Um… you might need help doing that.  That’s a lot of buttons to hold down.  While holding down the buttons, start the browser, and it should load in safe mode.  Whew!  I’m glad to say I picked a better password this time.

Lego zombieI have a new dream game: Lego Resident Evil. Think about it. Zombies and Legos have so much in common. They both walk funny and their limbs pop right off. Head shots would be so much funnier with brick zombies! And just think of the reanimation possibilities. Parts of minor zombies could reassemble into one, big, Boss Zombie! Really, I just want to play a Lego Leon Kennedy.

I finally tried out the online Battle Mode in Phantom Hourglass. Yeah, it took me long enough. I’ve got a lot of games to play, alright? So I finally tried it out. And I did not enjoy it.

To all those players who disconnect rather than taking a loss, who warp into walls in Metroid Prime: Hunters and end Call of Duty 4 matches early after one kill, making six other players take a loss… to all those players who can’t win without Action Replay…

When you do these things, you are telling the world that you’re not good enough to win on your own.

Just sayin’.

I got to see Iron Man this weekend! I’m still sick, so no one would sit next to me, LOL. But the movie was awesome! It had really scary war scenes, and really funny robots and so many awesome Iron Man suits. They put in all kinds of fan service! But the best part is that Tony Stark has a Wii. Squee!

Can I just say how happy I am that Guillermo del Toro is directing The Hobbit movies?! OMG! I love Pan’s Labyrinth, even though it has some squicky scenes that gross me out. He’ll put some real cool monsters in the movie, I bet! I just hope he can keep the elves as pretty as Peter Jackson made them. And I hope he uses some of the same locations. Those places were so beautiful! Galadriel’s forest reminds me of Elder’s Grove.

Kimono decided we should make up a chart for our chores. It shows each day of the week and which chore we’re supposed to do for each day. I tried real hard to keep up with it at first, but chores cut into Smash Brothers time!

I’m real good at hiding clutter. But how do you hide dust? There’s gotta be a way, right?

Finally! I got my Smash Brothers Brawl to play online! Woohoo!

I tried every possible setting on my router, and I could not figure it out. I ended up calling technical support. How ironic is that? And ya know what? They weren’t helpful at all. But then I thought, what if it’s not the settings on my router’s firewall? What if it’s my PC’s firewall? Turns out it was! I had to enable UDP for the network. I feel silly now. :P

So if anyone wants to play against me in Brawl, here’s my friends code: 4940-5091-3255. Comment with your code, and I’ll add ya to my list!

Super Smash Brothers BrawlI went to a midnight release last night and got Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I think this might end up being the biggest game of the year. You’ll see! So far, the game is really fun, and it includes lots of neat things, like 1-minute demos of each character’s original game. I’d have spent all night playing Zelda and Metroid if I hadn’t already finished those games so many times! I’ve played a few matches, and those have been fun, but I have a little problem. I haven’t gotten to play online yet. I can access the network, but no matches! The load times are really long in places too. I kinda wonder if maybe Brawl is too big for the Wii, and I wonder if maybe Nintendo didn’t have the network ready for players yet.

Nintendo really needs to get on the ball with online play. I mean, first you gotta have friends codes to interact with anyone on the Wii. Then, on games like Brawl, you have another code you need! And they don’t support headsets, I guess ’cause they’re afraid of what players will say. Shenanigans says they’re trying to protect us from ourselves. I don’t know what she means by that, all I know is if I want to play online, I have more fun with my DS or my computer.

Another thing is that players don’t have stats. I don’t know if I like that or not. I like having stats, ya know? But at the same time, maybe that will keep players from cheating. I really really really hate it when I play online, and someone disconnects if they’re gonna lose because they don’t want to hurt their precious score. I think all games should score like Tetris DS. If you disconnect, it’s a loss.

So I hope this means more online play from Nintendo. And I hope they work out all the snags so we can start having fun instead of hassling with codes. I just wanna play!
